A Beta Test Program is a testing phase in the software development life cycle prior to broad commercial availability. The full program provides software, documentation, and a form for reporting problems and making suggestions for improvements.

The purpose
The main purpose of the beta test program is to ensure that the program is stable enough for commercial release. Important tasks for the programme are e.g. verification that the graphical layout of the program is acceptable and that essential functionality is not missing from the product.
