Welcome to the 3rd edition of the Intellix newsletter!

In many respects 2001 has been a really positive year for Intellix A/S. With the release of markedly enhanced new versions of our core products, new dimensions have been reached in terms of usability, scalability and widening of the application spectrum of Intellix technologies. It was particularly gratifying that Intellix's most prominent product Intellix Designer was brought to the attention of a large public, when it was selected as the 'Product of the Year' by the readers of the PC WORLD magazine.

The majority of IT companies have experienced greater caution from clients throughout 2001, and Intellix has also experienced a period of reluctance in the financial services industry, which is Intellix's primary market. This trend was not surprisingly most perceptible in the time following the events of September 11. Nevertheless, Intellix has had the pleasure of cooperating with a number of major clients within the Nordic financial marketplace and the current dialogues concerning upcoming projects are extraordinarily promising for the time to come.

Over the next year Intellix will continue to emphasise further developments of our products for automating business processes in the financial industry. The first landmark in this effort will be the release of Intellix Knowledge Server 2.1, which will be available in the late spring of 2002.

This edition of the newsletter will have special emphasis on the release of the Intellix Designer version 4.1 and further on, we'll keep you updated on upcoming projects.

Allow me to take the opportunity here to thank you for your interest in Intellix and to wish you all a happy and prosperous 2002.

Sincerely,

Ole Rønberg

Intellix A/S Projects completed

As 2002 begins, major Intellix projects are moving towards successful conclusion. In the Swedish assurance company DIAL, Intellix has been involved in a large project focusing on customer self-service on the Internet. The aim has been to build a system that guides users all the way through the sometimes-challenging process of purchasing an appropriate insurance contract. The idea of self-service through the Internet has been particularly relevant in the case of DIAL as the company markets its wide variety of insurance products through a number of partners and other distribution channels.

DIAL is now able to distribute changes in business policies throughout its various channels and to have changes take effect instantly. At the moment, distribution is handled through 15 different partners and resellers that offer customers an easy and convenient way to purchase insurance coverage.
The system has been in use at DIAL's website since the fall of 2001 and business experts and technicians have been improving and streamlining the system continuously, making revisions based on knowledge about how customers are using the system.

DIAL is currently planning a number of marketing events that will include a massive mail campaign.

Completion of Intellix A/S' project for If Insurance
Intellix A/S has finalised the most comprehensive project in the history of the company, for Nordic insurance giant If.
The primary goal of the project has been to reduce the throughput time, i.e. the duration of case handling, and hence return faster results to customers and reduce dialog time to a minimum, saving both employees and customer's precious time.

The solution is one of the most advanced systems for registration and handling of claims ever created and gives insurance experts the power to easily update all changes in business policies throughout If's numerous branches in Norway. Even more important, customers will now experience a uniform and streamlined dialog and more efficient handling while submitting claims.

If started system implementation in December 2001. A team of specialists has been touring Norway, setting up the system in at least one branch every week. At the moment only two branches of If Norway still remain outstanding, and If has begun planning the implementation of the system in the Swedish branches of the insurance company.

According to If's project schedule, full implementation should be accomplished by the end of February. However, at the time our Newsletter went to press, the system was already being utilised in the area of private insurance and more than 2500 cases have been registered and handled by the system. Recently, the number of average handlings pr. day exceeded 110 cases and this figure is increasing every day.

The responses have been remarkably positive, judging from the amount of support requests the team receives. Employees have adopted the system and are satisfied with the fact that even rather complex cases can be handled by it. And If seems to be able to fulfil the strategic objectives of handling claims in a uniform, streamlined manner and to deliver an efficient and rapid service.

Intellix A/S releases version 4.1 of the Intellix Designer

Intellix A/S delivers an enhanced knowledge modelling tool aimed at supporting decision processes such as credit scoring and insurance case assessments; the new version implements a framework for building advanced and versatile knowledge models in terms of integration with other IT systems, layout of web pages, and flexibility of execution flow and deployment architecture.

The new version of the Intellix Designer empowers managers and business experts to build and maintain agile business processes by use of an integrated framework that allows instant deployment of changes and updates to core business processes. Thus, business processes are easily implemented and optimised for productivity measures and for their net contribution to the bottom line.

Advanced embedding of decision processes
With the new enhancements, the knowledge models employed by the Intellix Designer are very well suited for capturing and building models of decision processes and implementing these in adaptive scorecards. Adaptive scorecards integrate causal relationships derived from statistical models with business rules as well as practical experience held by business experts. Scorecards are typically used for credit scoring and assessment of insurance claims. The versatility and flexibility of the new Intellix Designer is based on AI technology that permits these different flavours of knowledge to be integrated seamlessly and embedded for support of primary operational tasks.

Other usages of the knowledge models employed by the Intellix Designer include knowledge capture and sharing, applications for Intellectual Capital Management (ICM), and wider support for decision processes, as well as interactive web services. As such, the knowledge models deliver added value to critical business processes by facilitating capture and maintenance of best practices independently of critical personnel resources.

Intellix Solution Framework
The implementation of the Intellix Solution Framework (ISF) in the form of an ISF add-in to the Intellix Designer is a major innovation that takes the capabilities of integration and customisability to hitherto unprecedented levels. This Designer add-in empowers knowledge engineers with features to build advanced and versatile knowledge models, in terms of integration with other IT systems, layout of web pages, and flexibility of execution flow and deployment architecture.

Furthermore, the ease of use of the Intellix Designer within the ISF enables business experts to maintain and roll out their own business processes without support from IT personnel. This removes a deployment bottleneck and allows the business experts to delegate their skills to other advisors and hence to focus their efforts on cases that challenge their expertise.

New features for fast and flexible development
Intellix Designer 4.1 has been developed specifically to integrate building, testing and maintenance of knowledge models within one application covering the full development cycle. Therefore, the Intellix Designer contains a strong integrated development environment (IDE), and with strong customisable test environments that can help business experts and knowledge engineers to strengthen their knowledge models. In effect, the Intellix Designer is an excellent RAD tool to implement decision processes faster and of higher quality by gathering requirements using workshops or focus groups, and by use of prototyping and early, reiterative user testing of designs.

The focus in the new release has been on usability and customisability. A range of spreadsheet-like features has been added to the example set editor, including filtering and sorting features for viewing case subsets, and a feature to freeze assessment columns to keep them in focus. Another new feature is aimed at example set completion, which can be used to generate complementary examples to the current example set and thereby in effect span the entire example space. Finally, customisability improvements have been implemented in the Web Test bench in the Intellix Designer, including features to customise presentations of knowledge domains, a history list of factors and values, and navigation features to locate and track factors.

An updated Developer Pack for the Intellix Designer is made available to support the development of customer's add-ins and third party add-ins in order to extend the feature sets provided by the Designer and the add-ins available from Intellix A/S.
