Major product upgrade in Intellix Knowledge Server 2.2
The Intellix Knowledge Server 2.2 implements a feature rich and XML based
component layer for building enterprise solutions. It provides a deployment
platform that matches the newly released development platform, Intellix
Designer 4.11. The performance of the Intellix Knowledge Server 2.2 has
been increased significantly, in particular for ISF based knowledge solutions.
The prospects for adding value to your business processes by using Intellix'
products to automate and support intellectual decision processes have
been increased significantly with the release of the Intellix Knowledge
Server 2.2.
New transparent licensing model
A major feature introduced in Intellix Knowledge Server 2.2 is the implementation
of a new licensing model. The new licensing model is flexible and transparent
and allows various configurations of the Intellix Knowledge Server to
be priced according to their respective feature sets. The licensing model
suits small as well as large solutions by allowing solutions components
to be acquired as needed, and it makes it easy to plan and estimate solution
costs and TCO whenever the specific solution requirements have been charted.
The new licensing model is based on a server license and a solution license.
Both types of licenses are necessary for solution deployment. A server
license can be either a Small Business Server, a Medium Business Server,
or an Enterprise Server. Their main characteristics are described in the
following.
The Small Business Server (SBS) license gives access to basic knowledge
server deployment features, and to additional features such as a session
store and a Local Administrator, the UI for the knowledge server. The
Medium Business Server (MBS) license is supplemented with the Intellix
business integration framework and a Remote Administrator, and allows
for solution sizes twice as big as with the SBS. The Enterprise Server
license adds features for advanced handling of fail-over to the MBS feature
set, and allows for solution sizes twice as big as with the MBS.
The solution license is a Pay Per User license that specifies a maximum
amount of users, and it has a fixed price for each end-user seat.

Improved Repository
The Intellix Knowledge Server 2.2 is based on a new repository format,
Intellix Repository 1.1, that allows for a logical separation of several
solutions on the same Intellix Knowledge Server installation. This is
vastly improving the ease with which each solution can be maintained on
the same server, and allows multiple solutions to co-exist on a server
without any conflicts.
Improved Warning and Notification Events
In version 2.2, errors reported via the operating system's event log now
include missing license, license failure and expired license. Warnings
are reported in the event log in case either 75%, 90% or 95% of the time
period of a time-limited license has passed or in when the limitations
of a solution license are approached.
Major performance improvements
Performance of knowledge solutions based on the ISF has been improved
from Knowledge Server 2.1 to Intellix Knowledge Server 2.2. For details
on the performance characteristics of the Intellix Knowledge Server 2.2
please consult the documentation provided in the Intellix Knowledge Server
Developer Pack 1.2.
New administrators and developer pack
The release of Intellix Knowledge Server 2.2 is accompanied by the release
of new versions of the administrator products, the Local Administrator
2.2 and Remote Administrator 2.2 with new and improved UI features, as
well as a new developer pack, the Intellix Knowledge Server Developer
Pack 1.2.
In conclusion, the Intellix Knowledge Server 2.2 comes with a heavily
improved licensing model that gives customers a more flexible and transparent
set of options for deploying knowledge management solutions. The Intellix
Knowledge Server 2.2 and the Intellix Designer 4.11 now present themselves
as a fully fledged pair of development and deployment platforms widening
the scope for building and deploying advanced knowledge management solutions.
